Mega mall developer says GST will trigger a retail boom in Nagpur

The city is being seen as a new power centre in the state. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and powerful Union minister Nitin Gadkari capable of pulling off the necessary political will for development in their home turf and strong possibility of GST (goods and services tax) being implemented from April are being seen as the factors that have potential to turn Nagpur into a major retail destination. Rituraj Verma, CEO of Progressive Shopkeepers’ Forum and also Goel’s consultant, said a survey of five major markets in the city revealed that lack of parking facilities and other infrastructure had led to business declining up to 20%. A majority of over 1 lakh shops were run from cramped rented premises in the city and there were also unauthorized structures that could not be developed and refurbished periodically.
