Labelling Rules framed by FSSAI cause Scarcity of Leonidas Belgian Chocolates in Mumbai, along with canola oil and oyster sauce.

According to representatives of the Forum of Indian Food Importers (FIFI), the root cause of the problem is the ambiguity in labelling rules framed by the Food Safety Standards Association of India (FSSAI). The rules require product information to be printed on the carton itself, rather than included in a removable sticker as many firms had previously done. MSoohel, owner of a popular luxury foods wholesale shop at Crawford Market, said that the problems caused by FSSAI norms had forced him to quit the food product importing business altogether a year ago.
