Amul lines up Rs 5,000-crore expansion to grow capacity

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets the popular Amul brand of milk and dairy products, has drawn up a plan toinvest at least Rs 5,000 crore to expand production capacities by more than a third over the next 2-3 years.The dairy giant, growing at around 24% annually, expects to maintain the growth rate on the expanded capacities as well to cross Rs 50,000 crore sales by 2020 from Rs 22,000 crore this year, said managing director RS Sodhi. The cooperative, which currently makes some Rs 540 crore of revenue from exporting milk products to more than 80 countries, is waiting for Russia to open up its market for Indian dairy products over the next few months.
